I wake up the next morning and I am under the covers in the guest bed now, still naked. Jason is nowhere to be found. It’s Sunday morning. I look over and see a piece of paper on his pillow. I reach for it. I unfold it and read the note.

I lean over onto the countertop of the island in the middle of the kitchen. Waiting for him to turn around. Finally he does. He looks momentarily startled but then smiles. He sets two plates on the island.

“You’re as sneaky as a cat,” he says playfully.

“Sorry.” I smile.

“I got bagels,” he says, lifting the bag for me to see.

“Awesome,” I say. He hands me the bag. I look inside. There are different kinds. I grab a blueberry one. I hand the bag back to him.

He hands me one of the hot cocoas from the cup holder.

“Thank you,” I say as I take it. I take a sip. Heavenly. I’m a chocoholic. Even on a warm September day the hot liquid feels great.

He spreads cream cheese on a bagel as he stares at me.
